Handmade copper flower, based on dahlia ‘Carolina Moon’. The flower has been made by cutting layers of petals, the sepal and the leaves from sheet copper. The leaves and sepal were then textured to give veins. The next step was to join the leaves, petals and sepal to a reclaimed copper pipe stem by brazing. The flower was then pickled clean and lacquered before adding a wooden base. The wooden base is reclaimed wood, stained a dark oak colour.
Although the flower has been lacquered there is a chance that it can still go darker with time, especially in damp environments.
The flower is about 16cm tall.
Brazing can leave marks and on this flower brazing has given a slightly lumpy effect on the inner petals, plus a silvery mark on the stem near the leaves. The effect on the inner petals can be seen on the photo of the flower from above.
